- What is VERTIBAS?
VERTIBAS is a formulation of spores of Entomopathogenic fungus (causing diseases in insect pests) commonly called as Verticillium lecanii . It kills bollworms, aphids, mites, scales, whiteflies hoppers and thrips.
- How VERTIBAS works?
Infection due to VERTIBAS occurs when the insect comes in contact with the fungus, usually the spore form. When the spore adheres to the insect�s cuticle it germinates and a tubule penetrates to the inside of the insect. It penetrates the cuticle both by mechanical and Enzymatic action. Once inside the insect, it begins to multiply and consumes the interior of the insect. The insects are killed by Vertibas by the depletion of nutrients in haemolymph and due to the toxins secreted. Infection is also caused through mouth.
- How to identify VERTIBAS infected insects?
Infected insects show loss of appetite, sluggishness, blackening at the site of infection and ultimately mummification of the host. The actual kill occurs in 2 to 10 days from infection.
- What are the pests and crops that can be targeted by VERTIBAS?
Scales, Aphids, Mites, Hoppers, Whiteflies and Thrips.
- Major crops to which VERTIBAS can be used:
Coffee, Tea, Tobacco, Cotton,Oilseeds, Vegetables, Mustard, Sunflower, Brinjal, Guava, Mango, Sapota etc.,
- How to apply VERTIBAS?
Mix 1- 2 kg of VERTIBAS with 1 kg of jaggery in 200 litres of water and spray in the late evening Hours or early morning hours for an area of 1 acre.
- Whether combined with chemical fungicides?
No. As Vertibas contains live fungal spores, it will affect the effectiveness of VERTIBAS.
